My Detox Scriptures
When I was dealing with the issue of blood, I created an arsenal of health and healing scriptures to speak out loud daily.
There are several scriptures that speak to removing ourselves from negative influences and detoxing our lives from harmful things, whether it be sin, bad habits, or toxic environments. Here are some scriptures that could be used in the context of a spiritual, emotional or physical detox, which can be applied to the concept of detoxing—removing negative influences, unhealthy habits, and spiritually purifying oneself:
1. 2 Corinthians 6:17
“Therefore, come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.”
This verse encourages separation from things that are spiritually harmful or unclean, which can be understood as a "detox" from toxic relationships, habits, or environments.
2. Romans 12:2
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing, and perfect will.”
This scripture emphasizes a mental and spiritual detox—breaking free from worldly influences and renewing the mind to focus on God's will.
3. James 4:7-8
“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and He will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
This passage calls for purifying oneself and drawing near to God, which can be seen as a detox process for the soul, removing spiritual impurities and focusing on holiness.
4. Philippians 4:8
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
This verse offers a detox for the mind, encouraging believers to fill their thoughts with positive, pure, and righteous things rather than dwelling on negativity or harmful influences.
5. 1 John 1:9
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
Confession and repentance serve as a spiritual detox, where one cleanses their heart and mind from sin, returning to purity through God’s forgiveness.
6. Colossians 3:5-10
“Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”
This passage speaks to a complete detox of the sinful nature, urging believers to rid themselves of harmful behaviors and to live in righteousness and truth.
7. Ephesians 4:22-24
“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
This scripture describes a detoxification of the mind and spirit, encouraging believers to reject old, sinful ways and embrace a new life in righteousness.
8. Titus 2:11-12
“For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say 'No' to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age.”
A call to detox from the ungodly desires and distractions of the world, embracing a life of self-control and holiness through the grace of God.
9. Matthew 5:29-30
“If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.”
Jesus uses extreme language to emphasize the importance of removing anything from your life that leads you into sin, which can be understood as a radical detox from harmful habits or influences.
10. Proverbs 4:23
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
This verse highlights the importance of guarding the heart and mind, as what we allow to enter into our hearts affects our actions. Detoxing from negative emotions and thoughts is key to living a life that honors God.
11. 1 Peter 2:1-2
“Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.”
A call to remove negative behaviors like malice and deceit and to embrace purity and spiritual growth. This is akin to a spiritual detox, cleansing oneself from toxicity and desiring pure, spiritual nourishment.
12. 2 Timothy 2:21
“If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.”
This verse speaks about cleansing oneself from dishonorable things to become useful for God’s purposes. This can be seen as part of a spiritual detox—removing anything that doesn't honor God and preparing oneself for service.
13. Hebrews 12:1
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
This verse urges us to throw off anything that holds us back, whether it's sin or distractions. Detoxing from things that hinder our spiritual progress allows us to live with focus and perseverance.
14. Galatians 5:19-24
“The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
This passage highlights the acts of the flesh that must be detoxed from our lives, and contrasts them with the fruit of the Spirit, which we should cultivate.
15. Romans 13:12-14
“The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.”
This is a call to put aside the deeds of darkness and to clothe ourselves in Christ, which can be seen as a spiritual detox that removes sinful behaviors and replaces them with godly living.
16. Psalm 51:10
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
David's prayer is a plea for inner purification and spiritual renewal. A detox for the heart and spirit, asking God to cleanse and create a heart that is pure and aligned with His will.
17. Matthew 15:18-20
“But the things that come out of a person's mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.”
Jesus teaches that what defiles us comes from within—our hearts. Detoxing spiritually means cleansing our hearts from evil thoughts and desires.
18. Isaiah 1:16-17
“Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight; stop doing wrong. Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.”
This call to wash and make ourselves clean is a powerful picture of spiritual detox, urging believers to stop doing wrong and pursue righteousness.
19. Ephesians 4:22-24

“Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.”
Paul encourages believers to get rid of the old yeast—a symbol of sin—and to embrace the purity of the new life in Christ, leaving behind old habits and influences.
22. Romans 8:13
“For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.”
This passage teaches that believers are to put to death the misdeeds of the body through the power of the Holy Spirit, essentially detoxing from sin and living according to God's will.
23. Proverbs 23:6-8
“Do not eat the food of a begrudging host, do not crave his delicacies; for he is the kind of person who is always thinking about the cost. 'Eat and drink,' he says to you, but his heart is not with you. You will vomit up the little you have eaten and will have wasted your compliments.”
This proverb cautions against indulging in toxic influences, whether they come from people or situations. It serves as a warning to stay away from unhealthy associations that will not nourish us.
24. 1 Thessalonians 5:22
“Reject every kind of evil.”
A clear directive to reject anything that is evil or harmful. This can be seen as a call to spiritually detox from all that hinders our growth and well-being.
25. 2 Peter 2:20-22
“If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then turned their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them.”
This passage warns about the danger of returning to old sinful patterns, implying the need for a detox from the entanglements of the world and the consequences of turning back to sin after knowing Christ.
26. 2 Corinthians 10:5
“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
A call to detox the mind from falsehoods and harmful thoughts, taking every thought captive and aligning it with the truth of Christ.
27. Psalm 139:23-24
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
A prayer for God to search and purify the heart, removing anything offensive or toxic, and leading the believer toward everlasting life.
28. Proverbs 4:27
“Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.”
A directive to stay focused and avoid distractions and evil influences that would pull us away from righteousness. It's a call for spiritual detox from harmful paths.
29. Isaiah 55:7
“Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and He will have mercy on them, and to our God, for He will freely pardon.”
This verse calls for a detoxification of thoughts and actions, encouraging the wicked to forsake their ways and turn to God for forgiveness and renewal.

Spiritual detox involves cleansing from the inside out, allowing us to become vessels of honor and live a life that reflects God’s righteousness.
